4-4-20 Political Theology – The Same Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow?

Revolving History

In evangelical circles over the last 40ish years I have heard preachers say, “God is the Same Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow!” Over these many years, I have always wondered if these were parrots chirping the words or if in fact they believed them. I’m results oriented. I believe that ‘words’ have meanings. As I discussed, when reacquainting with a O’l Navy shipmate now top theologian, I believe we live our eternity Now. And I absolutely believe that God is unequivocally the Same Today as well as Yesterday and Tomorrow.

What’s all that have to do with the present panic and political theology? Continue reading

10-26-19 Evangelical Failure, Roman Catholic Exceptionalism

Evangelical Failure

In the present Culture and Foundational Political wars, the headlines are awash with Evangelical Failure. I consider this Texas case as a prime example: “Report: Judge Rules Jeffrey Younger Can Share Guardianship over Son James”. My argument is that the Jury of twelve had no moral conviction except for one person. The Jury was willing to let a boy be chemically castrated and turned into a girl because a psycho-bable mother (who is a Phd) is attempting to prove a diagnosis of “gender-dysphoria”.

If it were not for the Evangelical Failure in the pulpits, education and family this case would not have even come to a trial. What is striking about Witherspoon is detailed in the ‘Introduction’ of the reference containing his ‘Lecture on Moral Philosophy’ or as otherwise titled ‘Moral Society’. What caught me is the reality that many of the pastors in the US are even more now of the Moderatist perspective then like Witherspoon who was a Populist in the church debates in Scotland. So that you don’t have to look it up, which most of you would not do, here is the quote from the Intro for clarification:

6-9-18 The Evangelical Conundrum Explained by Samuel Adams

Evangelicals are confused as they deal with the difficult question regarding participation in governance especially when looking at the national government. This conundrum is not new! Sam Adams had to deal with it during debates in the 1776 Continental Congress and the media.

Imagine that – Contrarian positions appearing in the media and of a religious/denominational nature. Sam Adams responds to the Quakers who want to submit to the King. They held a ‘convention’ from which came a declaration abhorring Paine’s “Common Sense” and any such writings let alone separating from Great Britain. The Quakers argued a position of Divine Providence that attempted to convince readers that it was ‘against God’ that the Colonial uprising was taking a position in the idea of separation from Great Britain.

Samuel Adams gave a greater and stronger public media response that discussed Gods actions in history with Biblical soundness.
