5-2-15 Program: Rules for Reformers Prt. 1

This is my quick survey of the book I have been reading by Doug Wilson titled “Rules for Reformers.” The Amazon description reads, “In Rules for Reformers, Douglas Wilson poaches the political craft of radical progressives and applies it to Christian efforts in the current culture war. The result is a spicy blend of combat manual and cultural manifesto. Rules for Reformers is a little bit proclamation of grace, a little bit Art of War, and a little bit analysis of past embarrassments and current cowardice, all mixed together with a bunch of advanced knife-fighting techniques. As motivating as it is provocative, Rules for Reformers is just plain good to read.

Thanks to Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals: A Practical Primer for Realistic Radicals — a book well-beloved by Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and many others — for much of the shrewd advice, and for none of the worldview.”

Doug’s Blog discusses the 7 Rules.

And here is my initial take on it:

4-18-15 Program: Dumbed by Dewey

This is almost self explanatory as we follow up what happened to the educational system from our Founders time. The reality is that John Dewey and his humanist collaborators did nothing but establish the social deviance that we have in our present day.

This program looks at our Founders education in comparison to the destruction that has occurred in modern education to the enslavement of the citizenry.

The Shot Heard Around the World

As we remember April 19th and the Shot Heard Around the World concerning the Battles at Lexington and Concord; it is imperative to consider the Message from my friend and Harvard classmate Samuel Langdon.

Consider the full truth of that which he preached in remembrance of April 19th, 1775:

GOVERNMENT CORRUPTED BY VICE.

by Samuel Langdon

And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city.  — ISAIAH 1:26

Shall we rejoice, my fathers and brethren, or shall we weep together, on the return of this anniversary, which from the first settlement of this colony has been sacred to liberty, to perpetuate that invaluable privilege of choosing, from among ourselves, wise men, fearing God, and hating covetousness, to be honorable counselors, to constitute one essential branch of that happy government which was established on the faith of royal charters? 4-11-15 Program: Hopeless America

This program looks at the egregiousness of what happens when hopelessness takes its place in a society.  Mercy Otis Warren describe our present situation with the growth and encroachment of the federal tax burden in a predictive way.  Her opening analysis of the Constitution of 1787 is geographically correct for the time but what she postulates is relevant to the moment.

“Mankind may amuse themselves with theoretick systems of liberty, and trace its social and moral effects on sciences, virtue, industry and every improvement of which the human mind is capable; but we can only discern its true value by the practical and wretched effects of slavery; and thus dreadfully will they be realized, when the inhabitants of the Eastern States are dragging out a miserable existence, only on the gleanings of their fields; and the Southern, blessed with a softer and more fertile climate, are languishing in hopeless poverty; and when asked, what is become of the flower of their crop, and the rich produce of their farms—they may answer in the hapless stile of the Man of La Mancha ,—”The steward of my Lord has seized and sent it to Madrid .” Or, in the more literal language of truth, The exigencies of government require that the collectors of the revenue should transmit it to the Federal City.”

There is more to this program than what Mercy had to say that is applicable to these modern times.

3-14-15 Program: S. A. The Lesser Magistrate Prt. 2

It is in my opinion that those in the political game all the way from the Water Board to the Presidency have no understanding of “The Doctrine of the Minor/Lesser Magistrate.”  As discussed in the last program, I believe that Sam Adam had the full understanding of this Doctrine and lived it to the fullest!

I had to keep the points going as to how and why this is true with Sam and maybe, just maybe someone who is running for office will want to understand that it is NOT a political game but a responsibility given by God to govern according to His Principles in every aspect of civil society.

3-7-15 Program: S. A. The Lesser Magistrate

A few programs back I introduced the “Doctrine of the Minor/Lesser Magistrate.”  In this program I bring to light how Sam Adams understood this “Doctrine” and in reality lived it as the quintessential Lesser Magistrate.

OK, just to get it straight on the definition, quintessential in this context means: representing the most perfect or typical example of a quality.

Sam Adams from his first elected position to the last term of office as the Governor of Massachusetts understood who the Great Sovereign is and how that applies to every aspect of life and governance.  Sam Adams fully applied the “Doctrine of the Minor/Lesser Magistrate” during his life.  I hope for moderns that can understand and apply this truth in the present.

2-28-15 Program: Sam Adams & Brutus VI and the Lesser Magistrate

Not only did Sam Adams argue, live and exemplify the reality that God is Sovereign in all things including governance but other noted Anti-Federalist expounded on these truths as well.

I continue with rounding out Sam Adams as the quintessential Lesser Magistrate and follow up with one of Robert Yates writings as Brutus.  Without getting into all the key points of Yates in Brutus VI; I want to highlight a couple of the elements that match what Sam lived:

  1. The expectation for the elected would be “For every man, rulers as well as others, are bound by the immutable laws of God and reason, always to will what is right.”
  2. The fear of Brutus is: “… The government would always say, their measures were designed and calculated to promote the public good; and there being no judge between them and the people, the rulers themselves must, and would always, judge for themselves.”

What I’m attempting to communicate in this program is that all Magistrates, even in these modern times, “are bound by the immutable laws of God” and responsible to govern accordingly.

2-21-15 Program: Educating Sam Adams

This is one of my favorite programs to have done.  It goes through the education of the youth in the Colonies up to and slightly through 1765.  Education for those that attended Harvard during these early colonial times, most were around 15 in age, learned how to discover, develop critical thinking, learned the historical classics and could read and write greed and latin as well as their native language.

The brilliance of the Founders is due to the way they learned as much as what they learned.   I experienced some of that “Classical Education” in my you and it has set the foundation as to how I learn, think and problem solve.  Education, particularly government/public education, is incompetent at best.  One of the best written books on the education system in the US is called: “In the Presence of Our Enemies” by Ellen McClay.  It’s long but worth the read!

2-14-15 Program: Greater Love

The Love of Liberty is what Samuel Adams is about.  This program discussed how he developed this love.  Here we learn more about Sam Adams as the Puritan Patriot and what that meant then and what it should mean now.

1-31-15 Program: the Minor Magistrate Prt 1

The responsibility of the Minor Magistrate has not only been lost in how modern local governance stands up to the encroachments and usurpation’s of the state or national government but, the Doctrine of the Minor (Lesser) Magistrate is lost from teaching in the the modern evangelical world!

Here is a re-introduction to the Doctrine of the Minor Magistrate which allowed the Reformation to move forward and kept Tyranny in check.
